Gemlite Fragrant Oil Reviews
|
On this page you will find reviews on fragrances produced
by the Gemlite company. This is an ongoing project and will take
a long time to complete. Most of the reviews have been done by me
with some reviews contributed by others. When possible I will indicate
the product and recipe the FO's were used in. PLEASE do not take
this information as the final word on these fragrances. How they
smell to you and how you use them and how a particular FO will react
on your skin will depend completely on your recipe and body sensitivity.
This information is for "general information" only! If
you have information on a Gemlite FO or EO that you have used and
wish to share it, please email me with the info and I will include
it here.
NOTE: The red asterisks (*)
indicate the acceleration noted in my soap recipe. The more asterisks,
the greater the acceleration.
ALL SPICE ** Cold
Process soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Very
fast mover. I beat it into submission with a whisk and could have
probably added color, but a swirl was not possible. I think you
would have time to do layers. Discolors to light orange to tan.
Scent is wonderful out of bottle, just as you would think an all
spice would smell. The Cinnamon became dominate when soaped, but
overall this one smells great to me.
ALMOND Soaped at 100 degrees F with 33% water discount.
Very well behaved in CP soap. Traced predictably with lots of time
to do layers or swirls. Delicious, smells just like Amaretto Liquor
out of bottle. Nothing nutty about it. After three weeks still a
nice strong "amaretto" scent.
AMBER Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted, discolored to a very light tan.
OOB very nice with what I perceived as slight “melon”
or “cream” notes. Not as “sweet” or perfumed
scented as my other Amber sample. The melon notes disappear in my
CP soap and are replaced by a sweeter, rather pleasant scent. Overall
a very nice soap scent.
ANISE Easy to work with in CP soaped at 100 degrees
F with 33% water discount. No acceleration and very little if any
discoloration. Turned cream color after the lye was mixed in. Smells
just like liquorice out of the bottle and when first soaped. At
three weeks the "liquorice" smell is still strong.
APPLE BLOSSUM Soaped at 100 degrees F with 33%
water discount. Slow to trace and almost no discoloration. Cream
in CP with full gel. Initial apple/floral OOB, but with more of
a "perfume" scent than floral. Smells similar in freshly
CP’ed soap with the floral scent predominate with background
notes of apple.
APPLE CINNAMON * Cold
process soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some
acceleration. Discolors tan to golden yellow. OOB smells like apple
cider with a hint of cinnamon. After soaping, loses the apples scent
and smells only of cinnamon.
APPLE GREEN * Cold
process soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated.
Very little, if any discoloration. Another tester reported no discoloration,
soaped stayed white with nice apple smell. OOB, tart smelling with
medicinal undertones. When CP soaped it mellows out to a light apple
scent.
APPLE MACINTOSH **
Cold Process soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount.
Very fast mover. I suspected this and pre-colored my oils. As soon
as lye solution was added it started accelerating. Another tester
reported acceleration, then separation which re absorbed. Very little,
if any discoloration. Interesting apple scent, reminds me of fermenting
apple wine. Strong out of bottle and should stick in CP soap.
APPLE ROSE *** Soaped
at100 degrees F 33% water discount, cold process. Seized in the
pot, no time for anything. Had to break up the solidified oils in
the pot with a whisk so I could get them into a mold. Very slight
discoloration to a light cream. Very nice Apple Rose scent out of
the bottle, that appears to carry over to the soap. I like this
scent If the major acceleration problem can be overcome.
ASIAN FANTASY ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated enough to
make it difficult to work with. Tried a one color swirl and did
not have time to get it into the mold. Voids in the finished soap.
Discolors to tan. Nice sweet citrus/melon smell OOB that faded completely
in CP soap and was replace with a herbal smell.
AUTUMNAL SPICES *
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some acceleration.
Discolored to yellow. OOB nice spicy scent. When CP soaped cinnamon
scent is prevalent. Reminds me of pumpkin pie.
BABY POWDER * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Slight acceleration.
My test discolored to tan, but another reported no discoloration.
OOB smells just like baby powder. Suggested as a great FO for blends.
BAKED SPICES *** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Major acceleration.
I had no time to do anything but pout it into a mold. Discolors
to a golden tan. Very spicy OOB, with cinnamon notes. Cinnamon more
noticeable after CP soaping, but some "other" spices are
still evident.
BALSAM Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted. Discolors to cream to tan. OOB
smells Floral with some herbal notes. In CP soap, the herbal scent
is more noticeable than the floral to my nose.
BANANNA Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. Very well behaved in CP soap. Traced predictably with
lots of time to do layers or swirls. Not your regular banana, but
better! Smells like the Banana candy you used to eat as a kid. Strong
OOB and still strong after soaping. Three weeks and still a strong
banana smell.
BANANA NUT BREAD Soaped at 100 degrees F with a
33% water discount. No acceleration noted, discolored to tan. OOB
there are top notes of banana with something else that is suggestive
of a “baked” scent. My CP soap loses the “baked”
scent is has a nice vanilla - banana smell. This makes a great container
candle.
BAYBERRY ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated too fast
to do a swirl. Discolored to tan to orange. Nice floral scent OOB
that changed to a lighter floral with hints of orange. Another tester
reported that is was a good representation of how Bayberry should
smell. I have another brand that smells more medicinal than this
one. Has faded after 30 days.
BEACH BREEZE Behaved very well in room temperature
with 33% water discount, cold process soap, no acceleration or discoloration.
Nice clean scent that sticks well in CP soap.
BLACK CURRENT ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated pretty fast.
Very slight discoloration to dark cream or light tan. Sharp, slightly
sweet berry smell OOB with herbal or medicinal undertones. Scent
remains the same after soaping. Scent in soap remains strong and
unchanged after 30 days.
BLACKBERRY ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerates pretty fast.
Discolors to a medium tan. Sweet berry scent with slight melon undertones.
Melon undertones disappears when soaped. Scent has dissipated some
after 30 days, but still nice sweet berry smell.
BLUEBERRY ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with 33% water discount. Slight acceleration in
my recipe . Discolors to a light tan. Does not smell "berry
like" OOB. Has a strong medicinal smell with dried peaches
or apricot undertones. When soaped, this FO has a very strong smell,
with the dried fruit/peach/apricot scent being dominate.
BLUEBERRY FLORAL ***
Soaped at 100 degrees F with 33% water discount. Accelerated in
CP soap very fast. Be prepared to work fast. Discolors to tan in
my CP soap recipe with a full gel. OOB has a strong citrus/floral
smell. I detected no berry scent. In freshly CP’ed soap the
scent remains about the same, but with more floral than citrus.
BRANDY * Soaped at
100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated some, but not
too bad. Would probably be easy to work with without water discount.
Initially turned tan and then to light brown. OOB this one has a
very sweet Rum smell with vanilla undertones. Looses its Rum scent
after it is soaped. After 30 days scent has become very light as
resembles the Blackberry FO with Vanilla notes.
BUTTERMILK & HONEY * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some acceleration noted
in my recipe. Discolors initially to tan then turns light to medium
brown. OOB has a butterscotch scent with Rum notes. Looses the Rum
scent after soaping. After 30 days, soap retains a medium strong
scent reminiscent of OOB, but slightly floral.
BUTTERSCOTCH * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Very slight acceleration.
When soaped, initially turns light tan, then shifting to medium
tan. OOB this smells just like Butterscotch. Remains pretty true
when CP soaped, but fades somewhat. Still a nice light Butterscotch
scent after 30 days. This is a great scent in candles. Very Strong
and lasting. Sold every one I made!
CANDY CANE Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted. Discolors to a dark cream, light
tan. Very nice Peppermint smell OOB. Soaps true to OOB scent and
still have nice peppermint with a hint of vanilla after 30 days.
Nice holiday scent.
CARAMEL Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted. Slight discoloration to cream in
CP soap. OOB smells like Caramel, somewhat reminiscent of cooking
sugar to make candy. Looses some of the "bite" of the
cooking sugar scent when soaped and smells a little richer with
a slight buttery note. Scent has stuck after 30 days.
CARNATION Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted. Slight discoloration to cream in
CP soap. Very nice strong floral smell OOB. What I would think Carnations
might smell like. Scent remains true when soaped and still nice
medium strong scent after 30 days. If you like floral scents, this
should be a good one.
CASSIA Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted. Slight discoloration to golden
cream in CP soap. OOB smells like Cinnamon, Cherries and Vanilla.
VERY nice holiday scent! After soaping, scent shifts to more of
a Cinnamon smell with cherry notes. Although not tested as such,
this one should be very good in candles.
CHYPRE * Soaped at
100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Slight acceleration noted.
Discolors to light brown. OOB smells a lot like Patchouli, but seems
to have a very slight "perfume’ smell that Patchouli
lacks. Remains strong and true in CP soap after 30 days. A nice
clean earthy smell.
CHRISTMAS SPICE ** Soaped at 100 degrees F with
a 33% water discount. Accelerated pretty fast in my CP recipe. Discolors
to cream/light tan. OOB smells like spicy citrus with very slight
cinnamon notes. Scent not as strong when CP soaped and fades a good
bit after 30 days to a slight cinnamon smell.
CHERRY, BLACK Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. No acceleration noted. Turned light cream in my
CP soap. OOB has a very cherry smell, which remains true in CP soap.
After 30 days there is still a good medium cherry smell in the CP
soap. A fantastic scent in my Soy container candles. Very strong
at 1 oz per lb wax.
CEDARWOOD * Noticed
no acceleration noticed in CP soaped at room temperature with a
33% water discount, discolors to a tan color. Nice smell, but not
necessarily like a cedar tree to me. Seems to be sticking well in
CP soap.
CELTIC TWILIGHT *
Behaves very well in CP soaped at room temperature & a 33% water
discount, with some slight acceleration reported. No discoloration.
Nice clean scent which sticks well in CP soap.
CHOCOLATE * Very Slight
acceleration in CP soaped at room temperature with a 33% water discount.
Discolored to a dark tan. Smells just like Chocolate and sticks
well. Reported to have Rum undertones and smell like Italian Cream
Cake.
CITRONELA Not soaped, will use in candles later.
CINNAMON * Behaved
very well with slight acceleration in CP soaped at room temperature
with a 33% water discount, another tester reported it as a fast
mover. Turned a nice shade of cream/tan in CP soap. Very strong
and true scent that stays and stays and stays! Did not react unfavorably
on my skin or the skin of my test subjects.
CINNAMON GLAZED DONUTS Soaped at 100 degrees F
with a 33% water discount. No acceleration noted. Discolored to
a dark golden tan in a full gel CP soap. OOB has cinnamon notes
with herbal accents. I would have expected vanilla scent but did
not detect any. Loses a lot of the herbal scent in CP soap,. Cinnamon
scent prevails with slight herbal notes. A nice holiday scent.
CINNAMON POACHED PEARS ***
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated pretty
fast in my CP recipe. Discolored to a golden tan in soap with a
full gel. OOB smells of pears with strong floral notes. No cinnamon
was noted OOB. When CP soaped, the cinnamon comes out very nicely
with rich fruity undertones. I’m going to try this one in
candles. Another nice holiday scent.
CINNAMON SPICE * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated slightly
in my CP recipe. Discolors to a light tan in CP soap. OOB has a
true cinnamon & spice scent. Stays true in soap with the cinnamon
being predominate with rich spicy notes. Should do well in candles.
Overall a nice scent. No fading in CP soap after 30 days.
CINNAPEAR * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. slight acceleration
note in my CP recipe. Discolors to a golden cream in CP soap. Predominately
cinnamon with fruity notes OOB. When soaped it has a nice distribution
of cinnamon/fruit notes. A good rich blend of scents. No fading
after 30 days.
CITRUS SPICE * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Turns a very light cream
when used in CP soap. Nice strong citrus scent with slight spice
notes OOB. When soaped, retains scent same as OOB. No fading after
30 days. If you like citrus scents, you will like this one.
CLOVE Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount, no acceleration noted. Turns a light cream in CP soap.
OOB smelled slightly of Clove and flowers. After soaping, the Clove
notes were a little stronger, but still understated. More of a Clove/floral
blend. Overall a nicer more useful scent than a pure Clove. Still
strong in CP soap after 30 days.
COCONUT Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted and discolors to a dark cream. OOB
the coconut is strong with “cream” notes with very slight
hint of caramel. The “coconut and caramel” is more evident
in my CP soap. The cream scent seems to have disappeared and has
been replace with something a little sweeter. Not sure of the best
application yet, probably candles, however, Combines great with
Pina Colada for a great candle!
COTTON CANDY *** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerates fast in
my CP recipe. Initially no discoloration when mixing for CP soap,
but turns a light brown after sitting for a few days. Caramel scent
OOB which stays with the CP soap. If anything, the caramel scent
is stronger in the soap than OOB. Slight Cocoa or chocolate notes.
COFFEE Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted, slower to trace than normal. Discolors
to dark cream in CP soap. Very strong coffee scent OOB. After CP
soaping, still smells like coffee, but lighter with cocoa notes.
No fading after 30 days.
COCOA Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted, slower to trace than normal. Discolors
to dark cream in CP soap. A rich Cocoa like scent OOB that changes
slightly in my CP recipe with cocoa and coffee notes combining.
No fading after 30 days.
COOL WATER Behaved very well with no acceleration
noted in CP soap with a 33% water discount, and no discoloration.
Nice clean scent that sticks in CP.
COUNTRY SPICE ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some acceleration. Turned
to a “mashed potato” consistency pretty fast, then smoothed
out. Turns the soap initially yellow, the cream after mixing thoroughly
and finally settling to a cream to light tan after soaping. OOB
this is a very strong scent with top notes of citrus followed by
spices. Hard to tell, but sometimes I seem detect a little pineapple.
Loses most of the spice scent after CP soaping to be replace with
something resembling a citrus floral smell. Makes a nice scented
soap that should go well with a beach or ocean theme. Should make
an interesting candle.
CRANBERRY Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted. This is one of the lest discoloring
FO’s tested. Color ranges from a very light cream without
gel to an only slightly darker cream with full gel. OOB I smell
cherries and citrus, a very nice combination. Another tester guessed
the scent ”Cranberry” without seeing the label, so this
should be representative of what Cranberry smells like. CP soap
seems to lose the “cherries” and is replaced with a
more “floral” scent. Produces a delightfully scent soap.
CRÈME BRULEE **
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some acceleration
noted with the water discount. Discolors to a dark tan. OOB has
a strong cream scent with something else, maybe a “pastry”
smell. Very nice scent that should make a great candle. Loses much
of the cream scent in my CP soap. What remains reminds me slightly
of vanilla ice cream.
CRISP HONEYDEW Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. No acceleration noted. Discolors to a medium cream
color. OOB has a very strong “melon” scent, much stronger
than the cucumber melon sample from another supplier, but not as
sweet as watermelon. After two weeks, my CP soap still smells very
much like melon. This would be my “melon” scent of choice.
CUCUMBER CREAM Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. Some acceleration noted. This one discolors to a
dark chocolate brown. OOB I detect melon/cucumber scent with slight
vanilla – floral notes. Has fades after two weeks in my CP
soap with only a slight melon scent detected.
CYPRESS GARDENS Soaped at 100 degrees F with a
33% water discount. Very slow to accelerate. Discolors to a light
cream. Very strong OOB scent which is very pungent to me with a
slight Patchouli note. Has been reported by other testers to smell
of grass & herbs or Juniper berries. After conducting another
OOB review, I did detect a slight “fresh cut cypress wood”
scent. Two weeks after CP soaping, the strong acetic smells has
dissipated and only a woodsy, cypress scent remaining.
DELICATE LILAC Soaped at 100 degrees F with a
33% water discount. No acceleration noted and discolors to a light
cream color. OOB displays a very nice Lilac fragrance similar to
the other two Lilac FO’s I have. Very strong in my CP soap
and seems to be sticking with a vengeance. If you like Lilac, this
one should work great in all your products.
DRAKKAR NOIR Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. No acceleration noted. Discolors to a light cream.
OOB only slightly similar to the other sample I have, with this
one exhibiting more floral notes. If you are expecting an exact
“Drakkar Noir type” dupe, then you should order a sample
to see if this one suits. Not a bad scent, just slightly different.
Still pleasant in my CP soap after two weeks, but has faded somewhat.
EGGNOG Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. Very slow to accelerate. Discolors to a dark tan. OOB
this is a very nice creamy scent with spicy notes. In my CP recipe,
cinnamon seems to be the top note, with the spices coming in second.
Another nice “holiday” scent. Not a bad scent for soap
and should make a great candle.
ELEGANT ORCHID Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. Slight acceleration in my CP soap. Other testers
have reported some acceleration with a water discount recipe. Should
be OK for swirling if no WD is used. Full gel soap turned out a
light tan color. Non-gel soap is cream colored. OOB has a nice floral
scent with a hint of citrus. Other testers report that this smells
as Orchid should smell. This is a very STRONG scent. You could probably
use less than I ounce PPO and be OK. The citrus disappears in CP
soap, but the floral scent stays strong.
ENCHANTING APPLE ***
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Moved real fast
on me. No time to do anything except get it in the mold. Both full
gel and non-gelled soap are a light cream color with very little
difference between them. OOB a very Apple scented FO, strong, but
not overpowering. Scent stays about the same in my CP soap.
ETERNAL ROSE * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. No acceleration in my
CP soap, however another tester reported acceleration and some separation.
I had no problems with this one. Full gel soap turned out a light
tan color. Non-gel soap is cream colored. OOB is a nice Rose, but
with slight “fruity” undertones. Smells about the same
in CP soap, but not as strong as OOB.
ETERNITY TYPE Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. Very slow to trace in my recipe. Turned the soap
mix light yellow when you initially add the FO, then fades to tan.
Full gel soap is light tan in color with none-gelled soap cream
colored. Not sure how “Eternity type” is supposed to
smell, but this one is pretty nice to me. OOB I detect notes of
floral, citrus and maybe a little musk. All in all, it is more reminiscent
of a perfume than a floral FO. Smells about the same in CP soap,
but not as strong as OOB.
EUCALYPTUS Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. Very slow to trace in my recipe. Full gel soap is
light tan in color with none-gelled soap cream colored. OOB it is
a very strong Eucalyptus scent. When soaped, it drops back to where
I think it ought to be. Nice by itself or as one to blend!
FANCY FLORAL ***
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated a
lot on me using my standard 33% WD. Full gel soap is tan in color
with none-gelled soap cream colored. OOB scent is floral with melon
notes. My CP soap lost the melon scent and is predominately a general
floral scent. Scent sticks well and is strong after soaping.
FIREPLACE *** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated a lot on
me using my standard 33% WD. Turned the soap mix light yellow when
you initially add the FO, then fades to tan. Full gel soap is tan
in color with none-gelled soap cream colored. OOB reminds me of
Pine and Eucalyptus with very slight cedar undertones. Very strong
OOB, but mellows somewhat in my CP soap. A nice clean smells scent.
FLORAL TEASE ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some acceleration, but
manageable. Turned the soap mix light yellow when you initially
add the FO, then fades to tan. Full gel soap is tan in color with
none-gelled soap a dark cream color. OOB it has a Berry/Melon scent
with Floral undertones. Berry melon scent still predominate when
soaped, but Floral notes are more detectable.
FLOWERS IN THE MIST **
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Some acceleration,
but manageable. Full gel soap is light tan in color with none-gelled
soap a dark cream color. OOB a very strong floral scent, but definitely
not a “sweet” floral. Not a Geranium scent, but that
type of “floral. You will either love it or hate it. If it
is possible for a scent to be stronger after soaping, this is it.
Strong and very lasting.
FLOWERS OF THE NILE Soaped at 100 degrees F with
a 33% water discount. Some acceleration, but manageable. Full gel
soap is light tan in color with none-gelled soap a dark cream color.
OOB very intense, sweet floral scent. This one is very strong OOB
and after it is soaped. You could probably get away with less than
1 ounce PPO.
FOREST AIR Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. No acceleration noted on this FO. When first introduced
into the soap mix, the mix turns a yellow green color. Both the
full gel and the none-gelled soap turns a caramel to light brown
color. OOB I detect Scents of Patchouli and maybe Pine with sweet
floral undertones. CP soap smells identical to the OOB scent, but
just a little bit mellower. This is a nice clean scent which compliments
it’s name.
FOUGERE Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. This one moved pretty fast on me and also on another tester.
Not impossible to work with, but be prepared. Initially turns the
soap mix a dark yellow, then turns brown to olive as the soap cures.
Nice smelling OOB and reported to be a true scent. A sweet, musky
scent with Almond (amaretto) notes. Scent does not morph when CP
soaped. I would think this would be a good “guy” scent
and it is reported to sell good as a shaving scent. Might make a
good candle.
HERBAL *** Moved
real fast in 100 degree F CP oils with a 33% water discount! No
time to even add color. I had to break up the hardening mix with
a whisk to get into the mold. Reported to be more workable without
the water discount, with one user reporting no acceleration. Had
problems with liquid separating from the mixture. Waiting for it
to re-absorb. Discolored to a light cream color. Strong scent OOB
that only slightly reminded me of herbs. Reported as a herbal/floral
smell, very clean and refreshing. Scent wise, this one is getting
good reviews. One user reported that it worked extremely well in
melt & pour soap.
HERBAL CITRUS * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated some on
me using my standard 33% WD. Should be no trouble to swirl if you
are prepared and use no water discount. Full gel soap is light tan
in color with non-gelled soap a very light cream colored. OOB scent
is herbal with slight citrus and floral notes. In my CP soap the
herbal scent mellows somewhat and mixes more with the citrus, producing
a fragrance that reminds me of Lemons and herbs. Soy candle is very
similar to the CP soap with herbs and lemons being predominate.
HOLLY BERRY * Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Slight acceleration
in my CP soap, but not un-manageable. Should be OK for swirling
if no WD is used. Full gel soap turned out a light tan color. Non-gel
soap is cream colored. OOB has a clean Pine scent with a hint of
Cedar. In CP soap the Pine scent is still strong punctuating the
Cedar highlights lending to a woodsy, evergreen theme. Another variation
of a nice clean forest scent.
HONEY Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration notes in my recipe. Full gel soap is light
tan in color with none-gelled soap a cream color. OOB a very good
honey scent! Still very nice in my CP soap, but with very light
floral notes. When used with honey base melt & pour, this one
flew off the shelf according to one of my customers.
HONEY BUNS Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted in my CP soap. Both full gel and
non-gelled soap are a brown color with very little difference between
them. OOB a full strong “bakery” scent; rich vanilla,
honey and nutmeg accentuated by cinnamon notes. True honey bun scent.
CP soap retains much of the OOB characteristics but with an added
caramel touch. This FO is an excellent candle scent. In my Soy container
candles it exhibits excellent scent throw and the smell is great!
Best of the bakery/cookie scents I have used. I ordered some for
my own use!
HONEYDEW MELON Soaped at 100 degrees F with a
33% water discount. No accelerated noted, plenty of time to work
with this one. Very little discoloration, if any at all in either
the full gel or un-gelled CP soap. OOB this is a great melon scent.
A very strong melons scent with warm creamy notes. Might be my favorite
“Melon” scent. Stick well in my CP soap with little
change from OOB. Makes a strong Melon scented Soy candle. This is
a great general purpose Melon scent that can be used alone in candles
and soap or blended for that “special” touch.
HONEYSUCKLE Behaved very well, no acceleration
noted in CP soap at room temperature with a 33% water discount.
Soap turned a nice cream color. Scent is light out of bottle, and
faded almost completely after a month. Need to retest this one.
HOME SWEET HOME ***
Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Moved pretty
fast in my CP soap. Turned the soap mix light yellow when you initially
add the FO, then fades to tan. Full gel soap is light tan in color
with none-gelled soap a darker cream color. OOB I detect citrus
first and then nutmeg and cinnamon. In CP soap the citrus smells
fades almost completely and reminds me more of old time “baking
day” with lots of clove, allspice and cinnamon. Smells about
the same in my Soy candles, but maybe with a little more clove.
All in all this one is a great all around scent. Great in MP, CP
and candles. Delicious.
HOT APPLE PIE Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. No acceleration in my CP soap. I had no problems
with this one. Full gel soap turned out a dark tan color. Non-gel
soap is a dark cream. OOB apple is the dominate scent, with slight
cinnamon/nutmeg notes. As with most apple scents, there is a slight
chemical smell which goes away when soaped. When CP soaped, the
apple scent is lighter with cinnamon rising to the middle and nutmeg/caramel
top notes. This fragrance makes a nice “Bakery” scented
soap with the soap being much truer to a Hot Apple Pie scent than
OOB. This one should also make an excellent candle.
HYACINTH *** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. This one moved very
fast on me with no time to layer or swirl. Another recipe and full
water and cooler temps might give more time. Not much discoloration
with full gel a cream color and non-gelled soap a light cream. OOB
this is a very strong scent, smelling of exotic florals with earthy
notes. In CP soap the scent stick extremely well and is very strong
when used at 1 ounce per pound of oils. I did not make a candle
with this scent, but if you like floral/herbal scents, this one
might be for you.
JASMINE TEA *** This
FO seized on me in about 45 seconds. Was soaping with oils at 100
degrees F and lye solution at room temperature and a 33% water discount.
The second test, conducted independently and with full water, was
reported to behave well with very little acceleration. I was unable
to even get it in a mold using a 33% WD. Discolored to a cream color.
To my nose, I could detect no tea scent and the Jasmine seemed to
morph in the finished soap. Second tester reported predominately
Jasmine with minor tea notes.
LAVENDER * Slight
acceleration with a 33% water discount in CP soaped at room temperature,
but nothing unmanageable. Discoloration, if any will be slight.
Nice clean Lavender smell that stick well in CP soap.
LEMON * Slight acceleration
noticed with a 33% water discount in CP soaped at room temperature,
but nothing unmanageable. No discoloration noticed. To my nose it
smelled like lemons, another tester reported that it smelled like
Lemon Pledge, but definitely "lemony". Sticks well in
CP and melt and pour base.
LEMONGRASS No acceleration noticed with a 33% water
discount CP soaped at room temperature. Discoloration, if any will
be cream to light tan. Strong, true (IMHO) scent that last well
in CP soap.
LILAC Well behaved FO with no acceleration noted
with a 33% water discount CP soaped at room temperature. No discoloration.
Smelled like Lilacs to me and sticks very well in CP soap.
LIME Noticed no acceleration noted with a 33% water
discount and CP soaped at room temperature. No discoloration. Nice
Lime scent that sticks well. I have used it blended with Lemon for
a great citrus blend in CP soap.
MANGO A very well behaved FO with no acceleration
noted using a 33% water discount and CP soaped at 100degrees F.
No discoloration noted. Nice tropical fruity smell OOB which diminished
somewhat when soaped. Might return with cure time.
MELON TANGO ** Accelerated
pretty fast using a 33% water discount and CP soaped at 100 degrees
F. No time for swirls. If you had your colors premixed in extra
oils you might have enough time for layers. Discolored to yellow
before molding then to tan. Hard to tell what it is OOB, but when
CP soaped, the melon comes out with strong citrus notes. I like
it as an alternative to cucumber melon.
NEROLI A very well behaved FO with no acceleration
noticed using a 33% water discount and CP soaped at room temperature.
No discoloration noted. Smells like I would think Neroli should
smell like. Reported to smell just like the EO. Strong scent that
sticks well in CP and M&P soap.
ORANGE FRUIT Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. Very slow to trace in my recipe. Full gel soap is
very light tan in color with none-gelled soap a light cream color.
Plenty of time to do layers and multi-color swirls. OOB this is
the best Orange I have tested. A wonderful, fresh Orange scent,
very true. When soaped, the Orange is not as intense as OOB, but
still nice and strong. Nice by istself or would be great to blend.
Smells delicious in my Soy candles. Should be a great holiday addition.
ORANGE JUICE *** This
one accelerated very fast on me twice, both times using a 33% water
discount at room temperature. Testing by an independent tester soaping
with full water indicated severe acceleration and separation. Discolors
to tan, but could be due to full gel. Nice scent, but not necessarily
a good orange dup. Independent tester reported that it smelled more
floral than like citrus. Strong scent that sticks well in CP soap.
PATCHOULI No acceleration noted with a 33% water
discount CP soaped at room temperature, but does discolor cream
to tan. Strong earthy smell as I would expect from Patchouli. Strong
scent that stick well in CP soap.
PEAR *** Moved real
fast in 100 degree F CP oils with a 33% water discount! No time
to even add color. I had to break up the hardening mix with a whisk
to get into the mold. Very little, if any discoloration. Nice light
pear scent out of bottle but lighter scent in fresh soap.
PEAR BERRY ** Accelerated
to a pudding state very rapidly, then stopped. Was soaping at 100
degrees F with a 33% water discount I worked with this one for a
couple of minutes while I poured sample bars and then prepared for
an in the pot" swirl. Never did go beyond the pudding state.
Would work great for layering and swirling. Discoloration reported
from none to a nice cream color. Good Pear smell with berry undertones
out of bottle, said to be similar to the one from Scent Shack.
PEPPERMINT I noticed no acceleration with a 33%
water discount. Discolors to cream/light tan, but could be due to
a full gel. Very strong Peppermint scent that is true and sticks
well in CP soap. Makes an outstanding container candle!
PINA COLADA Very well behaved FO with no acceleration
noticed using a 33% water discount. Discolors to cream/light tan,
but could be due to a full gel. Initially a very strong Pineapple
scent that mellows to more of a scent resembling it’s namesake.
No coconut scent detected. Could be used at less that 1 oz PPO.
Makes a great candle! I like this one and it seems to be growing
in popularity.
PINE *** Accelerated
pretty rapidly with a 33% water discount. Be ready for this one
and you can manage it. Probably no time for anything fancy. Very
little discoloration, if any. What is noticeable is probably from
the gelling process. Nice Piney smell, but not necessarily a true
Pine, but it will do until something better comes along. Nice strong
scent that stick well in CP soap.
PUMPKIN PIE ** Soaped
at 100 degrees F with a 33% water discount. Accelerated pretty fast
on me using my standard recipe, but might be manageable if you are
prepared and do not use a water discount. Initially turned the soap
mix orange when you initially add the FO, then fades to tan, then
cures to light golden brown. Full gel soap is a light golden brown
in color with non-gelled soap a slightly lighter golden brown color.
OOB the FO opens with notes of Clove and nutmeg with cinnamon and
allspice undercurrents. When CP soaped, Cinnamon moves to the top
with allspice rounding out the fragrance. Scent is strong and sticking
well in the CP soap. My Soy candle smells almost the same as the
OOB fragrance. An excellent seasonal choice.
ROSEWOOD Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. No acceleration noted on this FO. Both the full gel and
the none-gelled soap turns a light cream color with the non-gelled
soap being slightly lighter in color. OOB I detect scents of Rose
and Cedar with floral undertones. This scent reminds me of a botanical
garden. CP soap is mellower than OOB and brings more of a woody
fragrance to the front, followed by sweet floral notes. This is
an interesting fragrance with many possibilities.
ROSE * As with most
Rose FO’s, this one accelerates. Using a 33% water discount,
it moved pretty fast on me, but can be managed if you are expecting
it, just have your ducks in a row! Another tester reported that
with no water discount, she had plenty of time to work and experienced
no acceleration. Discolors to a light cream. To me it is a very
good Rose scent, strong and lasting in CP soap. Reported to smell
like on old time rose scent.
ROSEMARY Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33% water
discount. A very slow mover. Took a long time to reach trace. Full
gel soap is light cream in color with none-gelled soap a shade or
two lighter. You could color this one any way you wanted too. OOB
very intense true aromatic Rosemary fragrance. This one is very
strong OOB and after it is soaped, with the CP scent very similar
to OOB. This is an excellent blender. I have used it with Peppermint
and with Spearmint, both in soap and Soy candles. Everyone who smells
this one, especially blended, loves it!
RUSTIC CITRUS Soaped at 100 degrees F with a 33%
water discount. No acceleration noted on this fragrance. You should
have all the time you need to do multiple swirls or pour into molds.
Not much discoloration with full gel a cream color and non-gelled
soap a light cream. OOB the citrus scent is foremost with woodsy
floral notes close behind. A clean, different citrus scent. In CP
soap the citrus scent mellows and brings forth the floral notes.
Makes a nice clean smelling CP soap. In a Soy candle the scent is
same as OOB with a robust citrus scent.
SWEET PEA * Very slight
acceleration, but nothing unmanageable. Soaped at room temperature
sing a 33% water discount. Discolors to a cream/light tan, but could
be due to a full gel. A really nice scent that smells just like
the last Sweet Pea I used from another supplier. A very popular
scent for me and one that sticks well in CP and melt and pour soap.
SANDALWOOD A very well behaved FO with no noticeable
acceleration. Soaped at room temperature using a 33% water discount.
Very slight, if any discoloration. True Sandalwood scent that sticks
well in CP soap.
STRAWBERRIES & CREAM ***
This one accelerated very fast on me with no time to do anything
but mash up and cram in the mold.. Soaped it using a 33% water discount
at room temperature. Second testing by an independent tester using
a full water recipe indicated sever acceleration and separation.
Both tests resulted in a tan to yellow discoloration. Smells better
out of bottle than soaped, not a real strong strawberry, but the
scent is a pleasant fruity one that has stuck well for over two
months.
SUMMER FLORAL ***
This one moved real fast in my 100 degree F. oils using a 33% water
discount. I did manage to get a little liquid color in, but I had
to beat it into submission. No swirls or layers here. Discolored
to cream with the addition of the lye solution. Don’t know
what it smells like OOB, but is one of my least favorite. Reminds
me of a weed, not floral to my nose. This scent is still very strong
after 3 months.
YLANG YLANG Well behaved with no acceleration noted.
Soaped at room temperature using a 33% water discount. Very little,
if any discoloration. Any discoloration noted could be due to a
full gel. Nice clean scent that others have reported as true. Sticks
well in CP soap.
